CD Review by Preshias
OK, I put Jim Quick CD in my player.I usually jump around and play the last song first to help heighten my creativity for the review. I hit number three: “Stronger Than You Need To Be.” I had to pick up the CD sleeve to make sure I had put the right disc in there…. I was hearing undertones of The Drifters and a “Soul Man beach bum.” DIDN”T stop there. Yep, he is so full of soul, I had to look at the CD cover twice and shake my head. It was making me dizzy in a good way.
From the rockin’ “Strongest Weakness” to the heart tugging “Hurt That Bad.” If Conway was alive today, he and Jim would be vying for this country heart break hit.
Jim’s CD is not your ordinary music production, with Delbert McClinton on harmonica and his dog barking impersonation on “I’m A Dog” and Bekka Bramlett, Perry Coleman & the McCrarys on back-up vocals, you know you are in for a music party smorgasbord. You know the keg is here when producer Gary Nicholson (of Delbert McClinton, Wynonna Judd and Pam Tillis fame to name a few) has entered the mix! The 14 tracks form a musical melting pot of the southern culture; the kind of music that makes you want to get up and dance, and grab an adult beverage. Every genre has been added to the mix, including Country, Blues, Soul, Southern Rock and Jazz, satisfying any music enthusiast’s appetite.
NOTE: Quick’s been touring the Southeast US for more than 15 years, playing nearly 300 shows per year, and has released more than 11 albums including this, his newest, DOWNSOUTH. Info on JIM and his cast of characters and friends at www.swampsoul.com / www.coastlineband.com / isuwanee.com.
